OCTOPUS OUTGOING TARIFFS PRICE INCREASE.

At 12am today Octopus Energy increased the rates for its SEG and Fixed Outgoing tariff.  It has been a long time coming and will be well received by customers.

The Smart Export Guarantee (SEG) tariff will increase from 3p per kWh to 4.1p a kWh. Whilst the Octopus Outgoing Fixed will increase from 5.5p per kWh to 7.5p per kWh.

For those who have invested in green energy solutions at home and have excess energy, they can sell this has to be a little bit of positive news in the energy crisis.

The Octopus Outgoing tariffs have remained the same for as long as I can remember. With wholesale energy prices reaching record highs this year it’s only fair that’s the domestic export tariffs should rise too.

Is it worth selling my excess energy?

I don’t yet have solar panels but if I did I think I would be looking into the possibility of battery storage. The price of wholesale energy has tripled domestic tariffs in the last 12 months. Octopus has made the right call to increase its export rates. Personally, however, I would be clinging onto as much free energy as I can. It depends on how much excess energy you have.

Holding onto your solar energy for personal use and timing when to export your excess energy in my opinion is the key. Today as an example, you can export your energy to the national grid and get a minimum of 12p per kWh at 3.30 am and a maximum of 18.4p per kWh at 6 pm on the Octopus Outgoing Agile tariff.

The key thing to remember is that you don’t need to be on the Octopus Agile tariff to take advantage of the Outgoing Agile tariff. You just can’t be on Octopus Go and you have to have an import tariff with Octopus Energy.

Each persons circumstances and energy needs are different. Simply generating your own free energy at home, now more than ever has to prove that solar is the, without doubt, the way to go!
