How the Tesla Referral Scheme works in the UK.
If you are lucky enough to be an existing Tesla owner in the UK, you can share your Tesla Referral Link or code and earn Tesla credits. The person you refer will get a £500 discount on a new Tesla Model X or S or 650 free Tesla Supercharging miles today on either the Tesla Model Y or Model 3.

How do I get a Tesla Referral Link?
If you own a Tesla, to find your Tesla referral link, just go into your Tesla app.
- Click on the icon that looks like a cube next to your profile picture in the top right-hand corner. The Tesla Referral Rewards will then appear on the screen.
- Tap the blue button at the bottom of the screen to share your Tesla Referral link. You can share your Tesla Referral link directly in a text message or email from this screen.
- The Tesla Referral Rewards section of the Tesla app will also show you the number of will credits you have and allow you to exchange your look credits for Tesla goodies.
How do I check how many Tesla Referral Credits I have?
When someone has bought a new Tesla using your Tesla discount code you can access and redeem the credits in your Tesla app.
- In the top right-hand corner click on the Tesla the three lines in the top right of the screen.
- Click on your profile image and then click “wallet”.
- From here you can view your Tesla referral credits.
- The Tesla Referral credits will show as pending in your referral history on the app until the new Tesla is delivered.
- On collection/delivery day the referring Tesla owner will have an update in their Tesla app and the credits will show are available to redeem.
- Tesla credits are valid for 12 months. (Once redeemed, Tesla Supercharging miles are usually valid for 6 months.)
What can I exchange my Tesla Referral Reward Credits for?
Tesla Supercharging miles are the obvious way to spend your Tesla referral credits. There’s something quite exciting about fueling your Tesla for free!
You can also exchange your Tesla credits for a variety of lifestyle products, Tesla accessories, software updates and servicing.
How to use Tesla Referral Credits.
Ensure your Tesla app is always updated to the latest version to access all features related to managing and using your credits. New updates might introduce better ways to use your credits or improve the user interface.
This is how to spend Tesla Referral Credits 2025.
You can spend your Tesla referral credits in 5 ways:
- Tesla Shop: When you’re ready to check out in the Tesla Shop, you’ll see a drop-down box on the final checkout page. Here, you can select “Tesla credits” as your main payment card to pay for items.
- Supercharging: To use credits for Supercharging, open your Tesla app and click the three lines (menu) in the top right-hand corner. Navigate to “Charging”. On the next page, you’ll have the option to select Tesla credits as your main payment card for charging sessions.
- Software Upgrades: In your Tesla app, go to “Upgrades” and then select “Software”. Choose the software upgrade you want, add it to your cart, and proceed to checkout. You’ll need to confirm your billing address. At the payment step, you’ll be prompted to choose a payment method; here, you can select Tesla credits.
- New Vehicle Purchase: You cannot use Tesla credits immediately when ordering a new vehicle. You must wait until you receive the final payment invoice. Only at this stage will you have the option to apply your Tesla credits towards the deposit.
- Vehicle Servicing: For servicing, Tesla credits can only be used after the service is completed. Once your vehicle is ready for collection, you’ll be asked to confirm the cost. At this point, you can choose Tesla credits as your payment method. Note that you cannot select this option on the estimate page before the service is done.
Important Note: You cannot set Tesla credits as the default payment method in your Tesla wallet. Each of these services requires you to select Tesla credits manually during the specific transaction process.

Is the Tesla Referral Scheme still active in the UK?
Yes, the Tesla referral scheme is still available in the UK in 2025.
This is how the Tesla referral scheme has changed over the last year;
- April 2024: Tesla suspended its Referral Scheme.
- 5th September 2024: The scheme was relaunched in the UK.
- 27th November 2024: Terms updated; new customers get either a £500 discount on a new Tesla or £500 credit for supercharging or accessories on lease deals when using a referral link.
- 1st January 2025: Rewards for referrers reduced to £250, but the £500 discount for new buyers remains.
- 5th June 2025: Rewards for referrers rain at £25o, but the new Tesla Model Y is now included in the UK Tesla Referral Scheme with 650 free supercharging miles being offered for a Tesla Model Y or Model 3. The £500 discount now only applies to the Model X and S.
Finding your Tesla VIN number early.
At the moment this isn’t so much of an issue as there is stock available but if you order a new Tesla and want to find out when it is on its way from the factory you can check for a VIN number. Once this is allocated to your Tesla account it means it’s on the ship heading to the UK.
I highly recommend this Tesla VIN Code Extension which can be used on a Chrome browser because it worked for me. It searches your Tesla account and finds the VIN in the source code even before it is openly displayed.
Tesla Optional Extras are they worth it?
There are some things you cannot retrospectively add after your Tesla purchase. These are obvious extras like the paint colour, although you can change it in your order before your delivery date. I changed my colour choice from red, to white and back to red again after I had placed my order.
You can, however, add the tow bar and the software upgrades anytime after your purchase. The software updates are very easy to do.
Remember your vehicle will keep getting better as software changes are made. Over the last 3 years, the visualisation of the Tesla screen has changed so much. It is the reason why I chose a Tesla.
Is it worth buying Enhanced Autopilot when I order my Tesla?
In my view, unless you have read about the extra features of Enhanced Autopilot and want it straight out of the box on collection day, I would wait before ordering It in the UK.
I picked up my Tesla Model Y on the first day it was available in the UK and have driven it thousands of miles on the free autopilot, and it works a treat. I drove my Tesla from Berlin to Dunkirk in one day, and it helped reduce the fatigue whilst driving, as some of the pressures of driving are taken away by the vehicle’s software.

If you try out the Tesla free autopilot, want the additional benefits, like lane changing, and find self-parking attractive, you can add the enhanced autopilot at any time for £3,400. The vehicle automatically updates the software.
You can also use Tesla referral credits to pay for software updates if you get enough. Look out for promotions where the referring fee increases meaning you need fewer Tesla referrals to reach that goal.
Ready, Set, Tesla – Collection Day.
There was a storm the day I picked up my Tesla Model Y and I was extremely nervous. I used this app to run through everything I needed to check but due to the rain, I skimmed through the list. It is important to remember that you have 72 hours to report any issues to Tesla and even return the vehicle if you feel it is necessary.
Handover of your new Tesla involves minimal human contact (which I like) so it is helpful if you do some prep if you have never driven an EV or test-driven a Tesla.
I found watching walk-through videos on the Tesla website before collection helpful and after I attended a free Zoom online orientation which is still being offered by volunteers at Tesla Owners UK.
Tesla Owners UK don’t put any pressure on you to sign up and you don’t need to be a member to attend the online event. I had my camera off, listened, and asked a few questions in the chat box. The session was very useful. Keep an eye on the Tesla Owners UK website for future dates.
