🚿 Should I Store Hot Water at 60°C?
- No, you don’t need to store water at 60°C daily. As long as your tank cycles regularly (over 80% daily), it stays fresh.
- If you go away for a few days, it may be advisable to boost it to 60°C for a day to refresh the system.
⏳ How Long Does It Take to Heat Water?
- The time varies based on multiple factors, but generally, it takes 1 to 2 hours.
- Factors include the current temperature of the water and the target temperature set in your system.
I would take into account that when you are heating the hot water the heating doesn’t run as the hot water takes priority over the heating. This is why many people may choose to heat the hot water overnight. Your new tank will be well-insulated and can hold the heat for several hours and you can easily check the temperature in the Octopus app.
Will my Octopus Cosy Heat Pump continue to work without WiFi?
Yes! Your Cosy Heat Pump will continue running even if the Hub loses WiFi connection. It will maintain its previous mode:
- If in schedule mode – It will follow your set schedule.
- If not in schedule mode – You can switch to schedule mode from the Hub.
- Manual control – You can turn it “On” directly from the Hub and use your pods to activate a temperature boost.
So, even without WiFi, your Cosy keeps you warm!
⚡ Best Tariff for an Octopus Heat Pump?
- If you have an EV, battery storage, or solar panels, you may benefit from a smart tariff like Intelligent Octopus Go or Flux.
- If you don’t have any of these, the Octopus Cosy tariff is likely the best choice.
- If you are happy to chop and change time, you can also look at Octopus Agile.
- For cost efficiency, schedule your setback temperature between 4-7 pm, when electricity rates are highest.

Yes, it’s best not to use smart TRVs to control your heating. Why? Heat pumps work best when they gradually warm the entire home. However, if you shut off radiators using TRVs, the system has to work harder to heat fewer rooms, which ultimately reduces overall efficiency.
