WHO ARE OCTOPUS ENERGY?
Octopus Energy are award-winning, super green, en-tech geeks who want to save the world!
Octopus Energy is a gas and electricity provider that specialises in renewable energy. It may sound too good to be true but Octopus Energy, a firm that only started off five years ago, really wants to make the world a greener place whilst saving you money! Octopus Energy is currently the fastest-growing and the 6th largest energy provider in Britain.
Octopus Energy is different from other energy supplies because it hasn’t been built off the backs of fossil-fuel plants. It doesn’t run on systems that are decades old instead Octopus uses its own groundbreaking elec-tech software called Kraken.
Octo wind and shine – the easy eco-friendly energy choice. ☀️💨
Octopus Energy is part of the Octopus Invest group. Octopus Renewables is the sister company to Octopus Energy and is the largest investor in solar farms in the UK. They also invest in wind generation, energy through the anaerobic digestion of plants, and rapid response gas generation. Their renewable energy includes solar, wind, marine, wood, and, of course, anaerobic digestion. Octopus Energy’s AD does not include any animal-containing food waste or farm waste.
*26th March 2021 Octopus Energy has announced its intent to buy sister company Octopus Renewables!!!
My experience with Octopus Energy – the guys in the green superhero capes. 💥
When I switched to Octopus Energy in the summer of 2018 Octopus Energy had less than 300,000 customers. They were such a small supplier but from the outset, it was quite obvious they had big green energy dreams. The journey so far has been far from boring and I’ve been delighted to see them grow. I have never felt that their rapid expansion has been at the expense of its customers! Quite the contrary they have made me really think about how I use and consume energy and I have been swept up in their green tech enthusiasm.
Power and love.
We simply love Octopus Energy. I never thought I would have such a passion for my energy supplier but we are in a global crisis and they are leading the way in the energy market. I haven’t got the skills to do this but my supplier has and that makes me extremely happy!
Octopus has launched an entech-led research organisation dubbed Octopus Centre for Net-Zero. (OCNZ) 🌍 Funded by Octopus Energy it is the first of its kind in the world. All technology from the facility will be made public. With the climate emergency being upon us anything that brings together the energy industry, technology, and policymakers is simply amazing in my books!
Octopus Energy now has over 2 million customers. 🥳
Last week (February 2021) Octopus Energy celebrates their two millionth customer! In typical Octopus style, they rewarded their 2 millionth customer with a year’s free energy.
🎉🥳 We just made a heartwarmingly joyous call to lovely Laura, our TWO MILLIONTH CUSTOMER…
We wanted to celebrate the milestone by giving her a year's free energy. Her reaction shows just how much of a difference affordable (or, free, in her case!) energy really makes 💚 pic.twitter.com/mAJ5ltWpiC

Octopus Energy keeps on giving and winning.
Since the start of 2021, Octopus Energy has already won several awards including:
Which? recommended provider for the 4th consecutive year in a row.
Renewable Energy Awards winner 2021
U Switch Energy Supplier Of The Year 2021. Not only did they win the overall energy supplier of the year they also won 7 of the remaining categories. The next best company won 2 categories…. Think they can call that a win!!! 👏👏
I am delighted that as Octopus Energy upscales their business they also stay true to their vision of providing great customer service and green energy.
DIGITAL DISRUPTION AT ITS BEST – REIMAGINE HOW YOU USE ENERGY.
Octopus Energy was hailed as ‘Tech Company of the Year’ in the National Technology Awards 2020. 🏆
By disrupting the market companies like Octopus are thankfully driving change. They are without doubt digital disrupters who aim to think outside the box using cutting-edge technology to help customers reduce their bills and their carbon footprint. 🌍
We have made a saving 679 kg of carbon dioxide emissions a year when compared to the typical UK supplier. That’s the equivalent of 364 trees! 🌳 💕
“Energy needed a digital revolution – and we are it,” says Octopus Energy CEO.
We are extremely happy to Octopus Energy customers 💚
My family cheers at this statement. We all need to rethink how we use energy and we are delighted to jump on board and help by reducing our carbon footprint but Octopus Energy is more than just its CEO Greg Jackson. In Octopus Energy there seem to be lots of staff who genuinely believe in the green energy message and I think it’s this passion for change that is accelerating Octopus forward.
If you’re going to invest, investing in the planet.🌍
I have NEVER bought shares because I have never been in a financial position to do so BUT I have been looking into a SIPP. A SIPP is Self Invested Pension Plan. You basically add money to a pension and invest it yourself. I really would not be comfortable with my money being invested in either fossil fuel or tobacco and want my money to not only help me but also the planet. So I started to wonder if investing a part of my SIPP in Octopus would be a good idea.
I’ve been googling “can you buy shares in Octopus Energy?”
You can’t specifically buy shares in Octopus Energy BUT you can buy shares in their sister company Octopus Renewables. (ORIT) So that’s what I will be doing over the next goodness knows how many years. There’s no point in me saving for my retirement when there won’t be a planet for me to live comfortably on!
*UPDATE 26TH MARCH TODAY OCTOPUS ENERGY IS HAS ANNOUNCED ITS INTENT TO BUY OCTOPUS RENEWABLES!! HOW AMAZING IS THAT!!

Octopus Energy Podcast.
Octopus entered the market with a desire to disrupt the status quo with energy that’s good for the planet, good for your wallet, and, honestly, good for your soul. Listen to their journey, vision, and tech discussions on this free podcast series. (I have enjoyed them – but I am a bit of a geek) They really are the Silicon Valley of the energy market.
Do you live in South Wales or East Yorkshire?
Is your postcode either YO43 (Yorkshire) CF81 or NP24 ?(South Wales) If you are in either of these areas you can apply to join the “Octopus Fan Club“. Aptly named as customers living near wind turbines in Caerphilly and Market Weighton can apply to benefit from their windy location. Any electricity you use while your local turbine is spinning automatically gives you a 20% discount. Even better, when the wind picks up and the green electrons really start flowing, you’ll get 50% off every unit you use.
You can find more information here. The project was launched on 18th January 20201 and is the first of its kind in the UK.
