WHO IS OCTOPUS ENERGY?

Octopus Energy is a gas and electricity provider that specialises in renewable energy. It may sound too good to be true but Octopus Energy, a firm that only started eight years ago, wants to make the world a greener place whilst saving you money!

Octopus Energy is currently the largest electricty provider in Britain.

Octopus Energy is different from other energy supplies because it hasn’t been built off the backs of fossil-fuel plants. It doesn’t run on systems that are decades old instead Octopus uses its groundbreaking elec-tech software called Kraken. Their system is so good other energy companies pay Octopus to use their Kraken software. So they have a passive income from doing this too!

The energy sector isn’t something we normally think about every day but here is an example of why we should!

I love home renovation programs. When the architect goes in and just reimagines a space I am always shocked how much can be improved if you have the imagination. Without the guidance of the architect, the space would be underutilised and certainly less loved. In the energy sector that’s exactly what we need. In this crisis, we have to take stock and realise that as a country we need to generate and store more green energy. I believe Octopus Energy is, without a doubt, the entech architects to help make that happen!

Octopus Energy is part of the Octopus Invest group. They also now own Octopus Renewables who is the largest investor in solar farms in the UK. They invest in wind generation, energy through the anaerobic digestion of plants, and rapid response gas generation. Their renewable energy includes solar, wind, marine, wood, and, of course, anaerobic digestion. (Octopus Energy’s AD does not include any animal-containing food waste or farm waste.) Octopus is also investing in green hydrogen.

When I switched to Octopus Energy in the summer of 2018 Octopus Energy had less than 300,000 customers. They were such a small supplier but from the outset, it was quite obvious they had big green energy dreams. The journey so far has been far from boring and I’ve been delighted to see them grow. I have never felt that its rapid expansion has been at the expense of its customers! Quite the contrary they have made me think about how I use and consume energy and I have been swept up in their green tech enthusiasm.

We simply love Octopus Energy. I never thought I would have such a passion for my energy supplier but we are in a global crisis and they are leading the way in the energy market. I haven’t got the skills to do this but my supplier has and that makes me extremely happy!

Net-Zero

Octopus has launched an entech-led research organisation dubbed Octopus Centre for Net-Zero. (OCNZ) 🌍 Funded by Octopus Energy it is the first of its kind in the world. All technology from the facility will be made public. With the climate emergency being upon us anything that brings together the energy industry, technology, and policymakers is simply amazing in my books!

I still can’t quite believe that since switching to Octopus Energy in 2018 Octopus Energy has gone from a small energy supplier based in Soho, London with a handful of staff to a company that now has almost 7 million customers.

I cheered as I was driving along and heard they had overtaken British Gas as the largest electricty supplier in the UK.

It can feel like you are on your own as a family when you are watching your bills and trying to make th best ethical decision for the planet. They have helped us as a family not only feel more in control of our energy choices but also feel a part of something that is driving change.

My family cheers at this statement.
